Turbulence
The Mirror
The machine only repeats.
It is tempting to treat the AI’s picture of a brand as a technical problem — a matter of keywords, tags and tactics. It is not. That picture is assembled from the training data and from everything people write, review, post and say about you. The machine holds up a mirror to the digital audience. It has no opinion of its own.
What is happening
The Mirror
The machine only repeats.
If the machine has a problem with you, the world already had one.
What we see
Efforts to “fix the AI” that never touch the thing the AI is reflecting. Optimisation applied to the reflection while the subject stands unchanged.
Why it compounds
Because the mirror is honest. A weak reading in the machine is the first accurate, aggregated, unemotional account of how a brand is actually perceived — free of survey bias and the courtesy of the boardroom. Read correctly, it is the most useful piece of research a brand can own.
What it looks like from inside
The machine describes you the way your harshest customer would. Not wrong, not unfair. Just unfiltered.
What to do
Read it. Correct it. Keep it corrected.
In that order — the instrument before the tactic.
Read it
Treat the reading as research, not as an error to be suppressed.
Correct it
Change the thing being reflected: product, service, proof, and the sources that carry them.
Take counsel
This is where judgement matters more than tooling — strategy before execution, and someone senior enough to say what must change.
What this asks for
Change the subject, not the reflection.
Senior counsel on what must change before execution begins. That is the Advise practice.
